Police Arrest 4 Suspected Cattle Rustlers

Yobe State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its renewed onslaught against criminals in the state.

A statement signed by SP Dungus Abdulkarim, which was made available to journalists in Damaturu, the state capital, said that on 19th October, 2025, at about 0850hrs, a distress call was received at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, that on the same date at about 0730hrs,

He said four unknown persons were sighted around the Pompomari area, Damaturu, in a tricycle (commonly known as Jega) with registration number YAROTA 3517 DRT, conveying a white bull suspected of being stolen.

Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives from the Division swiftly mobilised to the scene and succeeded in arresting the four suspects.

Leadership gathered that those who were arrested are Mallam Adamu Usman, 54, of Alimarami Extension, Babayọ Umar, 20, of Nayinawa Ward, Garba Shaibu, 35, of Nayinawa Ward, and Babayọ Ali, 54, of Nayinawa Ward.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Mallam Adamu Usman confessed to having bought the bull from one Buba (surname unknown) and Halilu (surname unknown), both of whom are currently at large, knowing fully that the animal was stolen based on evidence available.

According to the statement, the bull and the tricycle used to convey it have been recovered and impounded as exhibits. At the same time, efforts are being intensified to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, has commended the operatives’ gallant efforts for their prompt response and charged the command officers and men to remain vigilant, proactive, and community-oriented in tackling emerging crimes across the state.

The Command also calls on members of the public to continue to support the Police with credible and timely information that will aid in the arrest of criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of lives and property in the state.

Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing, as efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate.
