To strengthen regional cooperation on electricity access and sustainability, the governors of Katsina, Kano and Jigawa states have agreed to form a united front in driving power sector reforms in Northern Nigeria.

Leading the Katsina delegation, Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda joined his counterparts in Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco, for a two-day high-level strategic meeting with the leadership of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and Future Energies Africa.

The discussions focused on developing a shared framework to expand electricity access in underserved communities, improve grid reliability, and promote renewable energy investments.

A major highlight of the meeting was the proposal to establish a Joint Regulatory Commission to harmonise regional energy policies and strengthen public-private partnerships for sustainable power delivery.

Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to transforming Katsina’s power landscape through innovation and collaboration.

“Our administration is determined to bridge the energy access gap and ensure that every sector, from education and healthcare to agriculture and industry, benefits from stable and clean electricity.

“This partnership with KEDCO and Future Energies Africa aligns with our blueprint for sustainable growth and reflects our shared vision for regional energy integration”, he said.

According to a statement signed by Governor Radda’s chief press secretary, Ibrahim Kaula, the Katsina delegation to the meeting included the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; the special adviser to the Governor on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed; the general manager of the Rural Electrification Board, Abubakar Abdullahi Matazu; and Engr. Abdulaziz Kabir Abdullahi of the Department of Power and Energy.

At the conclusion of the talks, the three governors resolved to pursue joint investments in power infrastructure, accelerate renewable energy deployment, and attract credible investors through transparent and investor-friendly policies.

The Marrakech engagement marks another decisive step in Governor Radda’s mission to position Katsina State as a model for energy leadership and a vital player in Nigeria’s energy transition and economic diversification agenda.
