People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and Senator representing Cross River North, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has been urged to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his significant influence and popularity in the senatorial district.
In a statement yesterday, the National Coordinator of Abuja Front of APC Cross River North, Hon. Gabriel Bravo Oluohu, described Jarigbe as an asset to the party, with organic supporters across all local governments in Cross River North.
Oluohu, a former Supervisory Councillor for Finance, Budget and Investment in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), highlighted Jarigbe’s impressive electoral track record, including his victory over the then sitting Governor, Ben Ayade, in the 2023 election.
He described Senator Jarigbe Agom as a movement and friend to the grassroots, saying he believes that Jarigbe’s defection would be a game-changer for the APC in Cross River North, potentially making Cross River State a one-party system.
The APC chieftain, who emphasised Jarigbe’s exceptional leadership qualities, noted that his rise to the position of Chairman of Senate Committee on Gas has convinced further that he has what it takes to take the party to the promised land in Cross River North senatorial district.
He noted that, if in the last election Jarigbe could attain such electoral feat without being a Committee Chairman, his unprecedented infrastructural developments and position in the Senate would be an advantage for the APC when he joins the ruling party.
He urged party members to wholeheartedly welcome Senator Jarigbe and support his potential candidacy in 2027, saying the move is a strategic effort to strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.
Oluohu expressed confidence that, with Jarigbe on board, the APC might not need extensive campaigning in Cross River North again, given his widespread support.
The former AMAC official, who is also a major stakeholder from the senatorial zone, recalled how Senator Jarigbe was able to defeat the then incumbent Governor, Ben Ayade, and caused the defeat of the then two serving members of the House of Representatives in his Senatorial district in the last election in 2023.
He said Senator Jarigbe remains a force, “very outstanding and is like a lion in the politics of the senatorial district and will defeat anybody that challenges him in the Cross River North, even without campaigning because his projects will speak for him.”
Therefore, he urged the Cross River state Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, and the leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to encourage Jarigbe to decamp to APC in the face of the gale of defections surrounding the PDP.
Oluohu said that Jarigbe’s uncommon popularity cannot be overemphasised as it is increasing every hour because of his sterling performance and leadership qualities.
