Ahead of 2027 general elections, Ohanaeze Ndigbo (Cross River State branch) has said it will only support candidates who have made positive impact on the people.
The organisation’s state president, Chief Chukwuemeka Egwuonwu, made the declaration yesterday at a reception in his honour in Calabar.
Egwuonwu said Ohanaeze would no longer be passive in political affairs, stressing that it will reject leaders who manipulate the citizens and cause them hardship.
He lauded the Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, for keeping his promises to the people, including non-indigenes, describing his administration as inclusive and people-oriented.
Egwuonwu pledged to strengthen unity and deepen Ohanaeze’s impact in Cross River State, succeeding the previous executive whose tenure had expired.
Also speaking , president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Senator John Mbata, urged the newly inaugurated Cross River executive to prioritize unity, progress, and the Igbo nation’s heritage.
He noted that the national leadership is rebuilding Ohanaeze into a global voice and unifying force rooted in pride, purpose, and cultural preservation.
The Cross River State governor, Bassey Otu, called on the Igbo community to partner with his administration in developing Cross River State, emphasizing inclusivity and a sense of belonging for all residents.

He emphasized the importance of inclusivity, noting that his administration has created a sense of belonging for all residents irrespective of their origin.
“My coming here today is to salute the dexterity of the Igbo nation. They have been wonderful partners in our economy and commerce, and together we will build a greater future,” he maintained.
