Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has approved the implementation of 70% of the 2024 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for staff of the state-owned tertiary institutions, effective October 2025.
The governor said the approval was part of his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and revitalising the education sector.
The government further said the approval followed a high-level meeting between the Governor and leaders of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTIKS), culminating in suspending the unions’ month-long strike.
The dialogue at the Government House, Kaduna, was facilitated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kaduna State Council, led by Comrade Ayuba Suleiman. Representatives of academic and non-academic unions from Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria; College of Education, Gidan Waya; and the Kaduna State College of Nursing and Midwifery, which has campuses in Kaduna, Kafanchan, and Pambegua, attended.
The unions had declared an industrial action on September 30, 2025, over issues relating to implementing the 2009 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure, retirement benefits, and general welfare of staff in State-owned tertiary institutions.
In a joint press conference held after the meeting in Kaduna, the union leaders expressed appreciation to Governor Sani for his “listening leadership, transparency, and unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare and educational advancement in Kaduna State.”
The Union leaders said the key outcomes of the meeting included approval and immediate implementation of 70% of the 2024 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for academic and non-academic staff.
