Kwara Community CelebrateS Water Project

The long- suffering people of Omu Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun local government area of Kwara State have described the ongoing rehabilitation of Omu Aran water works as a life saver.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Omu- Aran water works commissioned in 1977 is undergoing rehabilitation for the first time.

Speaking on behalf of his people, the Olomu of Omu – Aran, Oba AbdulRaheem Adeoti expressed delight over the water rehabilitation project, saying that the community is in jubilation mood.

The monarch lamented the inconveniences his people suffered during dry seasons while searching for potable water.

Olaoti spoke with newsmen in Omu- Aran during visitation to projects sites in the town.

Speaking through the spokesperson of Omu- Aran chiefs, High Chief Lawrence Oladele- Ajiboye, the monarch said the Omu-Aran Urban water supply project had been commissioned since 1977 and it once served the whole community with the neighbouring communities.

The monarch said that growth and development of the town had led to ever increasing expansion of both human development and business environment, necessitating higher demand of infrastructural amenities.

He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the rehabilitation of the water plant and called for more expansion for wider coverage.

“The water supply was extended to such towns as Odo-Owa and Iloffa before. So, it needs further expansion. However, on behalf of Olomu in Council, we thank our people’s governor, Mal AbdulRazaq for the efforts and commitment toward the rehabilitation of the water plant.

“We want more engineers and additional work force to work and monitor operation of the water works and supply in our community”, he said.

He also commended the governor for approving the construction of the 5.2-kilometre Omu-Aran township road and the completion of the Omu Aran-Oko road.
