Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Python Golf Club Amateur Open Championship in Port Harcourt, Alebiosu highlighted First Bank’s long-standing commitment to sporting events, noting its involvement in the Kaduna Polo tournaments and the Lagos Open golf tournaments for over a century.

“This initiative is all about promoting sports, particularly golf. At First Bank, we are dedicated to advancing sports throughout the country. You will find us actively participating in various sporting events. Today’s focus is on golf, but next week, we will turn our attention to polo in Kaduna, a tradition we’ve upheld for many years,” he stated.

He further announced that in November, First Bank will host the 60/50 edition of the Lagos Open golf tournament, attracting golfers from around the globe. “We take pride in our role, as many players who started here have gone on to compete and succeed internationally,” Alebiosu added.

Reflecting on First Bank’s recent support, he pointed to the recent E1 event in Lagos, marking it as a significant achievement, with First Bank playing a pivotal role. “Our involvement in sports is vital not only for corporate social responsibility but also for contributing to the nation’s development,” he explained.

Addressing perceptions about golf being an exclusive pastime for the wealthy, Alebiosu clarified that while golf may not be the cheapest sport due to equipment costs, it is accessible to many. “Golf is not solely for the affluent. Numerous players enjoy the sport without being rich. Many start with second-hand clubs, and in some clubs, there aren’t even any green fees. While it is more expensive than football, it is not confined to the elite,” he remarked.
