The Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation has ordered public and private primary and secondary schools to shut down for two days, being Thursday and Friday, for a massive measles and polio vaccination drive.

The order was contained in a statement issued by the permanent secretary of the Ministry, Yakaru Mustapha, which was obtained by LEADERSHIP on Wednesday in Maiduguri.

Mustapha, who added that the general closure will be observed from Thursday, October 23, to Friday, October 24, 2025, said schools were directed to resume activities on Monday, October 27, 2025.

The permanent secretary said the closure was being implemented to accommodate the 2025 National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs), organised by the Borno State Ministry of Health and Human Services.

“The vaccination campaign targets two key groups: Measles-Rubella: Children aged 9 months to 14 years. Polio: Children aged 0 to 59 months.
