New INEC Chairman Amupitan Assumes Office Thursday, Meets Directors

Baring last-minute change, the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, will assume office on Thursday.

This is as the yet-to-be sworn-in INEC chairman is scheduled to meet with the directors of the commission at its headquarters in Abuja at 1:30pm of the day.

The Deputy Director of Publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, disclosed this in a notice issued on behalf of the INEC Director of Voter Education and Publicity on Wednesday.

“The honourable chairman of the commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, will be meeting with directors as follows, date: Thursday, 23rd October, 2025, time: 1:30pm, venue: Conference Hall, INEC Headquarters, Abuja.

“In view of the above, members of the INEC Press Corps are invited to cover the opening ceremony of the event,” the notice read.

The Professor of Law at the University of Jos was confirmed by the Senate last Thursday after being screened by the Red Chamber.
