President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ikechukwu Ugwuegede as the South-East representative on the board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Ugwuegede, a lawyer and politician, previously served as Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) from 2011 to 2015. He also contested to represent the Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives during the 2019 general election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The President’s latest nomination came weeks after he forwarded an initial list of NCC board nominees to the Senate, which had drawn criticism for lacking a representative from the South-East region.

In a new letter addressed to the Senate and read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary, Tinubu formally announced Ugwuegede’s inclusion on the board.

The letter reads in part, “While it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished senators and distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”

Also on the board are Rimini Makama (Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, North-East), Hajia Maryam Bayi, Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (rtd), Senator Lekan Mustapha (South-West), Chris Okorie (South-South), and Princess Oforitsenere Emiko (Commissioner, South-South).
