Governor Ahmad Aliyu has approved the state government budget virement within the existing N526 billion 2025 budget as part of strategic efforts to enhance the welfare of citizens and promote sustainable development across the state.

Aliyu explained that the budget reallocation was designed to strengthen investment in critical infrastructure, essential services, and operational efficiency, without increasing the overall budget size.

With the state’s budget performance currently at 75 per cent implementation, the highest in Sokoto’s history, the state executive council approved several key projects, including the construction of a workshop for the Sokoto State Transport Authority, the allocation of N75.257 million for the maintenance of state-owned transport vehicles, and the Purchase of operational vehicles for the Ministry of Finance.

In the education sector, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ladan Ahmad Ala, announced the approval of ₦930 million to procure 15,000 tables and chairs for basic and secondary schools. The project will benefit 1,000 classrooms, each accommodating 45 students.

Rising from the 12th Regular Executive Council Meeting for  2025, Governor Aliyu emphasised that his government is focused on improving citizens’ quality of life, noting that infrastructure and human capital development are central to his agenda.

“I want to reassure you of our determination to ensure a new Sokoto State that our generation and the unborn would be proud of.

“We will continue to prioritise infrastructural and human development as part of our overall efforts to advance our dear state,” he said.

Addressing security concerns affecting some parts of the state, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to work closely with security agencies to restore peace and stability.

“We will not relent in our efforts to ensure peaceful coexistence and lasting peace in our dear state,” he stressed.
