Former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Nicholas Felix, has clarified that his recent free fuel distribution to residents of Oredo Local Government Area in Edo State was purely a humanitarian gesture and not a political campaign strategy.

He said that the compassionate move is not tied to a campaign strategy ahead of the 2027 general election but to ameliorate the plight of the people.

The gesture, carried out through the Dr Nicholas Foundation, took place at the Shafa Petrol Station along Akpakpava Street in Benin City, the state capital.

Beneficiaries of the free fuel distribution included dispatch riders, commercial drivers, and tricycle operators, many of whom expressed gratitude for the timely assistance amid high fuel costs.

Speaking at the event, Dr Felix emphasised that the initiative was not politically motivated, clarifying that he has been involved in such philanthropic efforts since 2014, both in the United States and Nigeria.

“We have been doing this for the past two years in Nigeria. This started in 2014, even in the US, and we brought it home to help people. With the removal of fuel subsidy, we know how tough things have become, especially for those in the transport sector.

This is our way of giving back and restoring hope,” he said.

He stressed that the distribution is not tied to any campaign for the 2027 general elections.

“There is no campaign here. We have done this in several states Ibadan in 2018, Benin in 2019 and again last year, as well as Etsako, Auchi, Niger State, and Abuja in July,” he noted.

Dr Felix added that the foundation would continue to take the initiative to more locations, aiming to bring relief to as many people as possible.
