Federal Govt Donates 2,000 Rabies Vaccines To Bauchi

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has donated about 2,000 doses of anti-rabies vaccine to the Bauchi State Government to eliminate rabies and protect both humans and animals.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar, disclosed this while flagging off this year’s rabies vaccination campaign in Bauchi.

Represented by Mr Elias Bitrus, the minister commended the Bauchi State Government for taking strong steps to control rabies.

He explained that the disease mostly affects children under fifteen, and that the Federal Government is supporting states under the One Health Framework to achieve zero human deaths from dog-related rabies by 2030.

On his part, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Bauchi, Dr Bala Lukshi, described the campaign as a key effort to prevent the spread of the deadly rabies disease.

He said the vaccination exercise will take place in all 20 Local Government Areas, with veterinary teams providing free vaccination for dogs and cats, urging all pet owners to ensure their animals are vaccinated.

A dog owner, Kabiru Garba, who spoke to our correspondent, commended the government for providing the vaccines and encouraged other pet owners to participate fully in the vaccination exercise.
