The Lagos State Police Command is mourning the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of FESTAC Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described CSP Ngbaronye as an upright and dedicated Police officer who exemplified professionalism, discipline, and compassion throughout her career.

“Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing helped strengthen the bond between the Police and the community she served,” the statement read. “At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities.”

According to the statement, the news of her death came as a rude shock to officers and men of the Command.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has commiserated with the late officer’s family, including her husband and older brother, who is a priest, as well as her aged mother.

Details of her burial arrangements, the Command added, will be announced in due course.

“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
