Okigwe Zone Vows To Sustain Uzodimma’s Legacy

The people of the Okigwe zone in Imo State have passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hope Uzodimma, assuring them of their commitment to work together to sustain his landmark legacies.

They also resolved to embrace one another as one indivisible family, bound by a shared heritage, destiny, and vision for peace and prosperity.

In a communiqué issued at the end of a Peace and Unity Summit organised by the Okigwe Council of Traditional Rulers and held at Otoko, Obowo local government area headquarters, they expressed profound appreciation to the governor for his visionary and people-oriented leadership that has transformed the state’s landscape and trajectory.

The people admired the governor’s legacy projects, his commitment to infrastructural rebirth, economic revitalisation, and his efforts to restore confidence in governance.

The communiqué was signed by the Chairman of the Okigwe Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Iheanacho Ndukwe; Chairman of the Summit, Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu; former INEC Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu; former Governor of the state, Dr Ikedi Ohakim; former Prelate of the Methodist Church, Dr S. K. Uche; and Chief Longiers Anyanwu, among others.

They pledged to sustain Governor Uzodimma’s legacies, reaffirming their unwavering love, loyalty, and continued support for his administration. The communiqué stated that the people of Okigwe, who have always identified with his progressive ideals, reaffirm their unwavering love, loyalty, and continued support for Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration.

The group further resolved to sustain and preserve the governor’s monumental legacies and infrastructural feats as a testament to his enduring impact on the state’s development.

 

 

 

Following the governor’s acknowledgement of the contributions of late Chief Sam Mbakwe, an illustrious son of Okigwe and former governor of Imo State, the people vowed to reciprocate the gesture.

 

 

 

According to them, it is self-evident that His Excellency has sustained the legacies of our illustrious son, Chief Sam Mbakwe.

 

 

 

The summit therefore declared that “Okigwe zone is holistically disposed to reciprocate this gesture with its avowed commitment to equally sustain His Excellency, Governor Uzodimma’s legacies without reservations because we have a moral duty to do so.”

 

They also resolved to sustain the zone’s unity and brotherhood, adopt the principle of oneness, and commit to the cherished Igbo values of communality and peaceful coexistence with sister zones in Imo State.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Nze Chukwu, harped on the need for the Okigwe people to work together as a group for the benefit of all.

Former INEC Chairman Prof. Iwu cautioned against early campaigns before the 2027 election, stressing that they were too early and could distract the governor.

He called on the people to rally round the governor, to enable him to finish strong and to work with all elected and appointed political leaders to attract the dividends of democracy to the zone.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Chidi Osuagwu, called for unity in the zone and condemned the pull-down syndrome prevalent among the political class.

In his comment, Eze Ndukwe, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, commended the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu, for his deep commitment to the peace and unity of the Okigwe zone and the state.

Eze Ndukwe eulogised him for working harmoniously with the governor, highlighting that his excellent performance in office has made the people of Okigwe proud.

In his contribution, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Hon. Sam Osuji, praised Chief Iwu for being a dependable pillar of the conference’s success.
