A young man, Abdul Adamu, has been stabbed to death in a counscillorship campaign entourage in Lapai local government area of Niger State for removing a campaign cap from someone’s head.
LEADERSHIP reports that the local government area elections in the state were scheduled for Saturday, November 1, while Thursday and Friday, October 30 and 31 were declared public holiday.
It was gathered that the incident occurred Thursday while the councillorship and chairmanship candidates were rounding up their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s local government elections in the state.
Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP, the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wasiu Abiodun, said: “On 30 October, at about 9pm, a report received indicated that there was a misunderstanding between one Abdul Adamu 20 years of Habibah road, Lapai and one Dauda Yunusa 19 year of Baddegi area via Lapai over an issue of campaign cap, and Dauda stabbed Abdul with a knife on the back.
“The victim was taken to General Hospital Lapai and later confirmed dead. The said Dauda was also arrested at Dangana village area and he is in custody under investigation.”
