Police in Niger State have given details of how a 20-year-old man, Abdul Adamu, was stabbed to death in a councilorship campaign entourage in Lapai local government area of the state.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday night while the councilship candidates for Lapai central were rounding off their campaign ahead of the local government election held yesterday in the state.
It was learnt that the altercation that led to the death of the young man started when he removed a campaign cap from a fellow campaigner’s head.
Eye witness accounts revealed they were shocked that the person wearing the cap, Dauda Yunusa, was apparently irked by the joke and immediately left and came back to stab Ahmed.
The PPRO of the Niger State Command, Wasiu Abiodun, told LEADERSHIP Weekend that “On October 30, at about 9pm, a report received indicated that there was a misunderstanding between one Abdul Adamu, 20 years, of Habibah Road, Lapai and one Dauda Yunusa, 19 years, of Baddegi area via Lapai over an issue of campaign cap, and Dauda stabbed Abdul with a knife on the back.”
He confirmed further that the victim was taken to General Hospital, Lapai, and later confirmed dead.”
Abiodun said Dauda was later arrested at Dangana village where he ran to after committing the act and is already in Police custody, undergoing investigation.
