Announcing his defection in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Abuja, Katung said his decision to leave the PDP followed “deep consideration and wide consultations” with political stakeholders, supporters, and constituents.

“This decision, though deeply considered, was not made lightly,” the Eenator stated. “Over the years, I have remained steadfast in my commitment to the ideals of democracy, good governance, and service to the people, which the PDP has long stood for. However, evolving political realities within our nation and my constituency have necessitated a re-evaluation of the platform best suited to advance the aspirations and welfare of my people.”

Explaining his decision to join the APC, Katung said the ruling party’s “current direction and leadership” offered “renewed hope for inclusiveness, stability, and sustainable development.”

He added that his defection was driven by his desire to serve his constituents and the nation more effectively.

“I hold in high regard the friendships, collaborations, and experiences I have shared with colleagues and leaders in the PDP,” he said. “I remain profoundly grateful for the opportunities the party afforded me over the years and wish it continued success in its future endeavours.”
