Resident doctors in Osun yesterday joined the indefinite strike action called by its national body, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), as they stopped attending to patients at the state teaching hospital, UTH Osogbo.

President, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Osun, Dr Phillip Ajibade, told reporters that the strike was in compliance with the directive of the national president of NARD.

“The NARD president was clear. He has directed all NARDits (members) in Nigeria to go on a total, indefinite, comprehensive strike.

“ARD UTH Osogbo is an affiliate of NARD and we have complied. What NARD is demanding from the Federal Government and fighting for, equally affects us too as doctors,” he said.

The national president of NARD, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, on Saturday issued a statement that resident doctors in Nigeria embarked on the indefinite strike after the 30-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government expired.

Suleiman stated that the strike became unavoidable after several unfulfilled promises and unsuccessful meetings with government representatives for improved conditions of services for resident doctors, among other demands. (NAN)
