The Rotary Club of Abuja Gudu has executed three impactful projects under its initiative themed “LEH” an acronym for Learn, Empower, and Heal.

The initiative, which aligns with Rotary’s areas of focus on Basic Education and Literacy, Economic and Community Development, and Disease Prevention and Treatment, was carried out at LEA Primary School, Angwan Fulani Village, near NCDC Laboratory, Gaduwa, Abuja.

Speaking during the event, Rotarian Kizita Ezenagu, the president of the club, explained that the project was designed to impact lives in three critical areas — education, empowerment, and health.
According to him, the LEH initiative aims to return children to school while providing them with learning materials, promoting access to basic healthcare, and fostering economic empowerment.
Ezenagu noted that the education component of the project focused on distributing branded school bags, water bottles, uniforms, 2,000 exercise books, literature and textbooks, as well as writing materials and scholarships to schoolchildren.

He said that these provisions were meant to support pupils throughout the academic year and reduce the financial burden on parents.

On empowerment, the club trained over 200 women in pastry making, while 10 participants received startup support, including filled gas cylinders, flour, fry pans, and pastry business starter kits.

The president stated that the empowerment programme was carefully designed with a sustainable plan to help beneficiaries build financial independence and contribute to community development.

For the health component, the club conducted a comprehensive medical outreach which included eye screening, free distribution of 150 eyeglasses, treatment for malaria and typhoid, HIV and hepatitis testing and vaccination, deworming for children, and blood pressure and glucose checks.

Ezenagu explained that the initiative underscores Rotary’s commitment to promoting disease prevention and treatment, particularly in underserved communities.

Project chair, Rotarian Chris Okeke, commended the dedication of the team and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the projects.
