Kebbi Gov’s Wife Flags Off Free Maternal Emergency Transport Programme

The Kebbi State First Lady, Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris, has taken a significant step towards improving the health and wellbeing of women and children in the state by launching a pioneering free Maternal Emergency Transport Programme in Argungu local government area.

The programme, which was officially launched at the General Hospital Argungu, is designed to bridge the gap in access to healthcare services for expectant mothers and newborns. With the deployment of six state-of-the-art ambulances, the programme aims to provide swift and reliable transportation to healthcare facilities, thereby reducing the risk of maternal and infant mortality.

Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris emphasised that the programme is a crucial step towards achieving the state’s healthcare goals, stating, “No woman or child should lose their life during childbirth due to lack of access to medical care.” She urged women to take advantage of the programme and seek medical attention whenever necessary, adding that the initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the healthcare system.

The First Lady also commended Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for his administration’s efforts in providing essential services, including healthcare and education. She called on husbands to support their wives by encouraging them to utilize the programme and access medical care when needed.

The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Sama’ila Yakubu Augie, and the Chairman of Argungu local government, Alhaji Aliyu Sani Gulma, praised the First Lady’s initiative, describing it as a commendable effort that would have a significant impact on the lives of women and children in the state.

The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Lawal Kangiwa, noted that the programme would contribute significantly to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the state. “This initiative is a step in the right direction, and we commend the state government for its commitment to improving the healthcare system,” he said.

The programme was attended by prominent dignitaries, including wives of the Deputy Governor, Commissioners, Chairmen, health personnel, NANAS foundation, and Elders forum. With this initiative, the Kebbi State government has demonstrated its commitment to improving the healthcare system and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.
