Montage FM 99.7 Abuja has unveiled plans for a vibrant grassroots football competition aimed at uniting communities and showcasing local talent across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The tournament, themed ‘Montage FM 99.7: Empowering Youth, Uniting Communities Through Football,’ is scheduled to kick off on November 18, 2025, with playoffs across the six Area Councils of the FCT, while the grand finale holds December 7, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where the top four teams will battle for first, second, and third place honours.

The tournament will feature 24 teams, with four teams representing each Area Council competing for a cash prize of over ₦2 million and other valuable rewards.

Mr. Raphael Ekpang, the coordinator of the tournament, made the announcement while Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja ahead of the event.

He described the tournament as a significant initiative aimed at using football as a tool for unity, youth engagement, and talent discovery across the FCT.

“This is about fostering unity among our diverse communities, encouraging youth engagement, and providing a platform to promote the raw talent that resides within our midst,” Mr. Ekpang stated.

Supported by Montage FM 99.7 Abuja, the tournament will initially feature football exclusively, with aspirations to introduce other sports such as basketball and athletics in future iterations. The competition aims to tackle issues of youth restiveness, enhance physical activity and discipline, and also serve to elevate the brand visibility of Montage FM as a youth-driven, community-focused media organisation.

According to Mr Ekpan, the community registration is currently open for teams in the six Area Councils of the FCT. The format of the tournament will include knockout qualifiers, culminating in a grand finale at the Main Bowl of the MKO Abiola National Stadium on 7th December 2025.

“Thanks to our sponsors and partners who share our vision, we encourage further support from organisations and individuals alike,” Mr. Ekpang continued. “We appeal to all eligible football teams and individuals to seize this opportunity to partake and uplift our community spirit.”

The registration period for participating teams opens from 5th to 15th November, followed by playoff matches between 18th and 23rd November, and knockout matches from 27th to 29th November.

“Beyond the competitive spirit, there are numerous prizes to be won, ensuring that every participant walks away with something meaningful,” he added.

Montage FM has urged the public to engage with their broadcasts and social media platforms for ongoing updates about the tournament and to support local teams as this initiative unfolds, heralding an exciting and transformative period for community sports in the FCT.

In Mr. Ekpang’s concluding remarks, he stressed, “This tournament is not just about football; it is about community cohesion, ambition, and the power of sport to inspire. Together, we can uplift our communities.”
