Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that there was a deadly clash between two rival cult groups, Icelanders and Greenlanders in Ahoada Town, headquarters of Ahoada-East local government area of Rivers State.

The police public relations officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a text message sent to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, however, said only five people were killed during clash.

Iringe-Koko listed those that were killed to include Chukwujekwu Kingsley ‘M’, aged 36 years and Chibuike ThankGod ‘M’, aged 23 years, as well as three others, who identities are yet to be known.

She, who stated that tactical police patrol teams have been mobilized to the area to restore normalcy, said investigation has been launch into the incident.

However, sources in the community told our correspondent that no fewer than nine corpses were counted by residents after the clash that occurred near an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the area.

The IDPs camp is located inside the newly commissioned Ahoada campus of the Rivers State University (RSU).

One of the sources told our correspondent that many residents of the community scampered for safety while  others remained indoors for fear of being caught by stray bullets.
