ASR Africa Hands Over N270m Abdul Samad Sports Complex To UNIJOS

The Abdul Samad Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has commissioned and handed over a state-of-the-art Sports Complex at the Naraguta Campus to the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State.

LEADERSHIP reports that the intervention, under the Tertiary Education Grant Scheme cost ₦270 million.

The world-class sports complex which was completed recently is set to be used during the ongoing Nigeria University Games (NUGA) being hosted by the University.

The facility represents ASR Africa’s continued commitment to supporting educational institutions through sustainable and impactful infrastructural interventions.

Plateau State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Musa Ashoms, speaking during the handover ceremony thanked the Chairman of ASR Africa, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for citing the project in the State.

Ashoms also commended the timely completion of the project and expressed optimism that the sports complex will promote sports development, recreation and holistic learning among students of the University.

In the same vein, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, expressed gratitude to Rabiu for donating the sports complex to the university as a legacy, which he noted to also align with the University’s vision of creating a sports hub.

“University of Jos has no project tied to a passionate philanthropist until today that we have Abdul Samad Rabiu Sports Complex in the University of Jos,” the vice chancellor said.

Similarly, the Managing Director and CEO of ASR Africa Dr. Ubon Udoh, expressed joy for witnessing the commissioning of the sports complex.

“This is a testament to the Chairman of ASR Africa’s commitment to providing indigenous solutions through strategic interventions in education, health and social development across Nigeria,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo expressed the state government’s appreciation to ASR Africa and its Chairman for the donation.

“This sports complex donated by ASR Africa will be a breeding ground where talents will be discovered and dreams realised,” he assured.

“This sports complex has come at the most appropriate time especially as the university is hosting the 2025 NUGA Games.”

Dignitaries at the commissioning include NUGA Games officials, government officials, and top management officials of the University.

Our correspondent reports that the Complex features a spectator stand with over 250-seat capacity, lawn tennis and basketball courts, with changing rooms, conveniences and other facilities.
