No sooner than Kaka began to respond when Altine’s phone started ringing again! “Answer the call Ummi, it may be an important one,” Kaka encouraged taking the time to contemplate what Altine was saying as she watched her granddaughter in frustration, answer the call. “Kai Nasiru, mai ya faru?” I raised an eyebrow, hm, I did not know Nasiru was in town. Altine’s brows were furrowed as she listened to what he was saying. And finally with a sigh she responded, “Haba, ba zan iya ba tor,” then suddenly she handed me the phone, “Maimuna, Nasiru wants to ask you for a favour.” Really ? I thought as I reached out to take the phone from her. Still thinking it was Altine on the line, I heard him say “…no, no Altine please don’t give her the phone.” But it was too late as I interjected, “And why shouldn’t she give me the phone?” There was total silence at the other end.
