The 11th Governing Council of the Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja), led by Senator Dr Olanrewaju Tejuoso, has approved the appointment of Malam Mohammed Sambo as Acting Registrar of the institution.
The appointment was made during the 80th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council held on Friday, November 7, 2025.
According to a press statement by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, the appointment takes effect from Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and will last for three months.
Sambo succeeds Mrs Roseline Adakayi, who was appointed in May 2025 for a period of six months.
“Until his appointment, Sambo served in various strategic positions in the University, including most recently as Deputy Registrar, Council Division.
“In line with the University’s governance structure, the newly appointed Acting Registrar shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor and shall serve as Secretary to the University Governing Council,” the statement said.
Congratulating Sambo, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, described the appointment as a welcome development that would help consolidate administrative efficiency.
Adamu charged him to uphold professionalism, integrity, and teamwork “as we continue to work together to lift the University higher.”
The Acting Vice-Chancellor also commended Mrs Roseline Adakayi for her good work during her tenure as Acting Registrar, noting that her contributions helped to stabilise the system.
Sambo holds a B.A. (Hons) in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1985-1988), and a Master of Public Administration (2010-2016) from the University of Abuja.
