The Zonal Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zone 12, covering Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe states, Yakubu Mohammed, has stated that 152 persons have lost their lives in 283 road crashes in Bauchi State in 2024.

He made this statement in Bauchi while declaring open a one-day 2025 sectoral workshop for special marshals, anchored on the theme: “Enhancing Security and Strategies for Special Marshal Operation.”

The FRSC boss revealed that Bauchi State recorded 1,402 injuries, adding that special Marshals, as a volunteer arm of the Corps, play a critical role in reducing road crashes.

Mohammed, however, cautioned the special marshals to pay close attention to their personal safety, discipline, and collaboration, as well as continuous training, by leveraging technology.

He called on drivers to be cautious of their safety and that of their passengers, adding that the Zone would ensure strict compliance with traffic rules to protect lives on the roads.

Mohammed further warned drivers to install Speed Limit Devices on their vehicles, which would guard against speeding, which was identified to be among the leading causes of accidents on the roads.

LEADERSHIP observes that Bauchi, which is the gateway to the Northeast, accommodates four major federal highways, including Jos-Bauchi expressway, Bauchi-Gombe highway, Bauchi-Maiduguri expressway and Bauchi-Kano road. These roads are in deplorable conditions despite repeated government promises to fix them.

Special Adviser to Bauchi Governor on Political Matters, Abubakar Faggo, emphasised the importance of security and safety on the road, urging Special Marshals to apply what they have learned.

He said the workshop is to improve their skills and share best practices that will address current challenges in road management.

Faggo, who appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for his contributions to safer roads through road infrastructure, noted that they deal with traffic control, management, and safer streets, among others.
