A 29-year-old woman, Chisom Okonkwo, has been arraigned before an Enugu Magistrate Court for allegedly defaming her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, and giving false information to the police over claims that he sexually assaulted their two young daughters.
According to a charge sheet filed by the Commissioner of Police, the accused allegedly committed the offences in August 2024 at Adoration Junction, opposite Dan-Legal Hotel, Emene, Enugu State.
The police stated that, “Chisom Okonkwo ‘f’ did defame the character of one Okonkwo Ozioma ‘m’ by shouting in public that he defiled her two daughters, which exposed him to hatred, contempt, and ridicule, and damaged his reputation.”
The charge further alleged that her actions contravened Section 323 and are punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.
Further investigations revealed that Ozioma Okonkwo was arrested in Enugu State on October 25, 2025, after his wife, Chisom Okonkwo, accused him of sexually abusing their two daughters, aged 2 and 5, amid ongoing marital dispute.
However, medical examinations later found no evidence of abuse, prompting his release.
In a second count, the police accused Chisom Okonkwo of providing false information to detectives at the State Intelligence Department (SID), Enugu, on October 27, 2025.
According to the document, “Chisom Okonkwo ‘f’ gave false information to police detectives that one Okonkwo Ozioma ‘m’ defiled her two daughters, which made the police officers arrest and detain him — information she knew to be false and which misled the officers into taking an action they wouldn’t have taken if the true facts were known.”
The alleged offence, the charge continued, is punishable under Section 154(1)(a)&(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Law of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.
As of the time of filing this report, details of Chisom’s plea, bail conditions, or court proceedings were yet to be made public.
