Residents of Danjanku Tasha and Dantashshi communities in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State staged a protest early Tuesday morning following a deadly overnight attack by suspected bandits.
The angry protesters blocked major roads, halting movement in and out of the area to express their frustration over the worsening insecurity and what they described as the slow response of security agencies to distress calls during attacks.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed Danjanku Tasha late Monday night, killing several residents and abducting many others, though the exact number of victims remains unknown.
One of the residents who spoke during the protest said the communities have been living in constant fear, as attacks have become frequent despite repeated complaints to the authorities.
“We are tired of burying our loved ones. These bandits kill, kidnap, and destroy our villages while security operatives arrive hours after the damage has been done,” one protester lamented.
The protesters called on the Katsina State Government and the federal authorities to take urgent action to protect lives and property in the affected communities and across the state.
The Katsina State Police Command was yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of press time.
