Presidency Flags Off Community-Based Peace Initiative In Plateau

The Presidential Envoy on Community Engagement for the North Central, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Abiodun Essiet, has commenced a three-day stakeholder engagement in Plateau State to deepen dialogue and launch Community-Based Peace Structures across the 17 local government areas of the state.

As part of the activities, Dr. Essiet paid courtesy visits to the Plateau State Department of State Services (DSS) and Headquarters 3 Division, Nigerian Army, where she met with senior security officials to discuss community security concerns and explore ways to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

She also held strategic meetings with the Director-General of the Plateau Peace Building Agency, Dr. (Mrs.) Julie G. Sanda, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chief Ephraim, and several local government chairmen. Discussions focused on enhancing synergy between government institutions and community actors to sustain peace, address grassroots challenges, and promote inclusive governance.

Speaking during the engagements, Dr. Essiet reaffirmed the Presidency’s commitment to promoting dialogue, strengthening community resilience, and ensuring sustainable peace through partnership and inclusive engagement.

She noted that the initiative is part of the Presidency’s broader effort to empower communities, prevent conflicts, and consolidate peace across the North Central region.
