President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu; Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; former President Goodluck Jonathan; and other eminent dignitaries are expected to attend the memoir presentation of former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Obong Victor Attah, as he turns 87 on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
At the event to be held in Abuja, Jonathan, according to organisers, would chair the launch of Obong Attah’s memoir to be unveiled during the ceremony.
Disclosing this at a press conference held at Watbridge Hotel and Suites, along the IBB Way, Uyo, the state capital, at the weekend, former media adviser to Attah, and one of the planning committee members, Dr Udeme Nana, explained that the event was deliberately arranged as part of activities marking the 87th anniversary celebration of his former boss and mentor.
He said President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, would grace the occasion as special guest of honour, and guest of honour respectively, while the state governor, Umo Eno would be the chief host.
”Today, I want to formally announce on behalf of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), for the launch of the biography of his Excellency, Obong Victor Attah, will by the grace of God turn 87 on Thursday, 20th November this year.
”And so, on that date, he will formally present what may be described as his biography, and the title of the biography is; ‘Attah: Architect of a New Democratic Dawn,’” he stated.
”The chairman of that occasion will be no less a personality than the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, his Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. And the sitting President, who incidentally was one of the colleagues of Obong Attah, in the class of 1999 governors, will be the special guest of honour.
”The Senate President has been invited also as a special guest on that day, and the sitting governor, Umo Eno, another successor by protocol, is going to be the chief host,” he added.
Dr Nana, who is the founder of the Uyo Book Club (UBC), explained that the book written by a veteran journalist, Dr Dele Shobowale, of the Vanguard Newspapers, chronicled the life and times of the former Akwa Ibom governor.
”The book is written by a veteran journalist in the stable of the Vanguard Newspaper, Dr. Dele Shobowale, who has been on the job of putting together this book for the past 14 years. Finally, the book is ready and will be presented to the public,” he enthused.
Nana, described the former governor as one of the best Presidents that Nigeria ever had, adding that Attah would have turned the fortunes of the country around if he was given the opportunity to rule the country.
He said: “Since the advent of democracy in 1999, I said if he had become the President of Nigeria, Obong Attah would have turned the fortunes of this country around for good, sustainably.
”Obong Attah, is a consummated patriot, a deep thinker, knowledgeable, creative, very cerebral, very versatile, and very hard working.”
He recalled that with just a paltry N600 million naira monthly allocation from the centre (1999 – 2007), Attah was able to set Akwa Ibom on the pedestal of growth and development, adding that the successive governors succeeded based on the template he laid which could have been replicated at the centre if former President Olusegun Obasanjo had not chosen the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, in his stead.
