The Executive Director, Technical Services, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Umar Abdullahi Umar, has empowered over 3,000 supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state.

This is just as he received no fewer than 500 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who had joined APC.

Umar, the son of the former governor of the state and APC national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, launched the first phase of the empowerment programme at an event held at the Armani Event Centre in Kano yesterday.

A statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Edwin Olofu, Chief Press Secretary to the former APC national chairman, said the empowerment package distributed to youths across all 44 local government areas of the state included agricultural inputs, among others, aimed at boosting agriculture to make the beneficiaries self-reliant.

Speaking at the event, Umar described the empowerment as the tip of the iceberg of a broader scheme he had planned for the people, especially for youth and women in the state.

According to him, his passion to help the populace is what prompted him to introduce empowerment schemes, not only for the constituents of Tofa/Dawakin-Tofa, Rimingado federal constituency, where he hails from, but also for people across the state.

While hinting that plans are also underway to launch the second phase of the initiative, Umar said;

“We have already begun plans for the next phase of this empowerment. This is not the end.

Any APC member who did not receive support today should not lose hope, your turn will come.”

The empowerment items distributed include tricycles, mini-truck, fertilizers, herbicides, improved seedlings and solar-powered.

Others include irrigation pumps, agro-processing machines, among other modern farming tools designed to boost productivity and promote self-reliance among the beneficiaries.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously, without selling them, noting that the gesture was intended to boost their livelihood. He commended the Kano APC leaders for shaping his commitment to public service.

“I am inspired to offer these kind gestures by our  APC leaders in Kano. Their service to humanity is a source of inspiration to me and many members of our great party.

Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Murtala Sule Garo, Abba Bichi and Mariya Bunkure are among those who inspired me for what they are doing to people of our great state,”

“I extend my gratitude to all our leaders; Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Murtala Sule Garo, Abba Bichi and Mariya Bunkure. Our prayer is for Allah to grant us a time when every party member will enjoy the dividends,” he added.

After the distribution of the items, Umar received no fewer than 500 members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) who had joined APC.

Receiving the defectors, he said the party would treat them as bona fide members without discrimination and commended them for “courage to see the truth to join APC as the strongest party in Africa.”
