The Oyo State government has, through its task force, initiated enforcement against private estate developers operating in contravention of the approved regulations governing private estate development in the state.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Akin Funmilayo, disclosed this during an enforcement operation held along the Akinyele-Iseyin axis.
Akin Funmilayo stressed that the increase in the number of private estate developers undertaking site clearing and construction activities without requisite approvals from the ministry was alarming.
He added that this unauthorised development poses significant risks to orderly urban growth, environmental safety and the implementation of the state’s physical development policies.
He maintained that all the estate developers were not known to the Oyo State government and do not have any traceable address except on the Radio, with a series of complaints of illegal transactions which had been traced to these unregistered estate developers, hence their activities need to be regulated in the public interest and to prevent crises relating to land grabbing.
The commissioner explained that the enforcement exercise would help curb these indiscriminate developments and asserted the ministry’s authority in regulating land use and urban development within the state.
He advised the affected private estate owners/developers to regularise their titles and planning approvals with the state government within the next three days of receiving the Contravention Notice to avoid enforcement of Town and Country Planning Laws and Regulations.
“All the estate developers are advised to relate with the office of the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development for further information, clarifications and directives”, he added.
