The Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele has revealed that 205 students will bag first class degrees during the institution’s 25th convocation and golden jubilee celebrations taking place on Saturday.

Professor Mele who made the revelation on Monday at a press briefing on Monday in Maiduguri as part of activities marking the ceremony, said out of the 20,164 graduands of the institution, one of the largest cohorts in the history of the University, 66 graduands will bag PHDs, alongside 1,020 master’s degrees, 3,851 post graduate diplomas, 13,624 Bachelor Degrees and 1,699 Diplomas.

He said,” For the Bachelor Degrees, there are: 205 first class, 3114 second class upper and 9,501 second class lower. We congratulate our graduands for their hard work, resilience and dedication. ”

The Vice Chancellor noted that the 50-year golden jubilee ceremony of the University is a profound celebration of resilience, growth and unwavering purpose, saying that the University, from its humble beginnings with just two faculties, has evolved into a vibrant institution comprising 17 faculties, a college of medical sciences, a dynamic college of postgraduate studies and 12 specialised research centres.

Mele said that, through years marked by insurgency, economic constraints, and even a global pandemic, the university had stood firm as a steadfast symbol of courage, stability, and intellectual fortitude for the entire Sahel region.

He said that for the next fifty years and beyond, the University has established the UNIMAID Endowment Fund, which he noted is expected to serve as an enduring vehicle to strengthen research, expand infrastructure, nurture innovation, support scholarships, and ensure long-term financial sustainability.

“We therefore extend an earnest call to our alumni, partners, corporate organisations, philanthropists and all lovers of education to join hands with us in shaping the UNIMAID of the future.
Help us build a stronger, smarter and ever more impactful institution for generation to come.
