An aspirant vying for the House of Representatives seat in the National Assembly in the 2027 elections, Fanuel Lawrence, said that his aspiration is to liberate the people of Gashaka, Kurmi, Sardauna federal constituency from decades of neglect and poor representation.
Lawrence, stated this at the weekend, while addressing supporters and party stakeholders, during the commissioning of a newly renovated party secretariat in Sarti, headquarters of Gashaka local government area in the state.
The aspirant, who will be contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to represent Gashaka, Kurmi, Sardauna Federal Constituency, called on the electorate to actively participate in the electoral processes, so as to elect leaders of their choice.
Lawrence urged eligible voters to take their civic responsibilities seriously to avoid voter apathy in the coming election.
“Don’t just sit down and say your vote doesn’t count,” he said. “Be part of the process. Ensure you get your voter’s card, go out on election day, and make sure your voice counts. By so doing, we will no doubt emerge victorious.”
He, then described his ambition as a divine mandate, aimed at wiping away the tears of the people and changing the political narratives in the constituency, which he noted the people have suffered decades of neglect and poor representation.
“Since the return of democracy in 1999, the constituency has not enjoyed meaningful federal presence, due to the alleged inability of past representatives to lobby effectively for developmental projects.
“As a young person exposed to the wider world, I can say our constituency has not been fairly represented. The dividends of democracy have not reached us.
“Apart from lawmaking, lawmakers must lobby for projects, but if you look critically, no major project has been brought to our constituency”, he lamented.
Lawrence expressed confidence that the APC would provide a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries.
The leader of his campaign team, Alhaji Tanko Mohammed, stressed the importance of lobbying in politics.
He pledged that, the team would leave no stone unturned to ensure Lawrence’s victory at the APC primaries.
“What we are after now is the primary election, not the general election,” he stated, adding that plans were underway to mobilise massive grassroots support for the aspirant.
The state APC chairman, Barrister Tukur Ibrahin El-Sudi, commended Lawrence for renovating the party office, which had been abandoned for decades.
