Barcelona president Joan Laporta has pledged that the Catalan club will do everything possible to secure a victory against Chelsea in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge.
The two European giants will renew their rivalry, last facing each other in the knockout stage of the 2017/2018 season, where Barcelona emerged victorious after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge and a 3-0 win in the return leg.
“We must win in London, which is no easy task, but we have a capable team,” Laporta was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo (via Sempre Barca).
“I’m uncertain if we will recover any additional players. Chelsea is a formidable opponent with a well-balanced team, but we possess high-quality football, and we are committed to striving for victory.”
Barcelona has spent the last two and a half seasons away from their home ground and has experienced a nomadic existence at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. However, they finally returned to their permanent home, the new Spotify Camp Nou, with a sensational 4-0 victory over Athletic Club marking the occasion.
Ferran Torres netted twice, supported by goals from Robert Lewandowski and Fermin Lopez, while Joan Garcia ensured a clean sheet.
Following the match, Laporta expressed his joy at returning home, stating, “It has become a reality; we are back, and we celebrated with a fantastic football spectacle. I’m thrilled, as are all Culés, that we’ve reclaimed a joyful day in our lives, embracing the joy of being Barça, highlighted by the ceremonial first kick with our oldest members.”
