The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Secretariat has officially confirmed the relegation of Castmog Ladies from the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership due to their failure to meet essential licensing and registration requirements for the upcoming season.

The decision, announced by Media Director Samuel Ahmadu on Monday 24 November 2025, follows prior warnings given to three Premiership clubs, including Castmog Ladies, regarding compliance deadlines that the Abeokuta-based club failed to meet.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Modupe Shabi, indicated that the Secretariat has begun adjusting competition logistics to accommodate the revised league structure.

“We have a duty to uphold the integrity of the league, and compliance with registration and licensing is non-negotiable,” she stated.

The NWFL COO highlighted the importance of adhering to these requirements for maintaining a credible league system while supporting the long-term growth of women’s football across Nigeria.
Shabi confirmed that a revised season schedule and operational details will be announced shortly, emphasising the league’s commitment to transparency and professionalism.

With all other affected clubs having complied, Castmog Ladies stands as the only Premiership side unable to meet the necessary standards, leading to their relegation and allowing the season to proceed with 19 teams.

As a result, clubs, including Rivers Angels, originally scheduled to face Castmog Ladies in the opening fixtures, will now have a bye on those matchdays.
