2023: Nigerian Youths Will Speak Through Their Votes – YPP

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the vice presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Dr Kasarachi Michael Enyinna has said that the coming elections will be a defining moment for the country as the youths will speak boldly through their votes for a change.

The VP candidate made the statement yesterday during a visit to the LEADERSHIP Group Limited Headquarters in Abuja, saying Nigerian youths, who make up about 60 per cent of the electorate, are ready to demonstrate their strength through the ballot. “I represent them and I know. I share their thoughts and views about the situation of the country, and they desperately need change that will transform their lives,” he added.

He said, “Young Progressive Party is a forward-thinking party made up of young, dynamic people of impeccable character eager to see a better Nigeria. In 2023, we have no doubt that the youths whom we represent are in dire need for change.

“Our focus is on the youth, and we are passing a message about what we will do for the country. We are promising Nigerians three things; security, power and economy. If we had a better leadership that drives these three things, Nigeria will be on top of the world.”

Enyinna while speaking on the readiness of the youths, said,  “The reason you are not seeing them on the streets is because people are just waiting for the 2023 elections. The situation we are seeing today is worrisome. We have an economy that is down. Inflation is at a high rate. People are losing their jobs, some are relocating abroad daily. Nigerians are running away from their country and our leaders are watching.

“So, in 2023, the youths will do the right thing; change the leadership, get young people involved in governance, from the presidency to local government. The youths are ready to prove they can do better than what we are seeing today.”

On the spread of YPP, he said YPP is spread across the country. “We have about 285 candidates running for the 2023 elections across the states, they are the structures. We don’t have any doubt about structure. We have people who are not happy with the system and are desirous of a change – they are the structures.”

While decrying the state of the nation’s economy he said, “A government should be able to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. If you go to India, China, or most countries, their economies are run by SMEs.

“We will run a better economy that Nigerians will be proud of. An economy where ease of doing business will be improved. Within our first 100 days in office, we will be able to address challenges facing the country.”

On security, Enyinna expressed worry over the rising level of insecurity, saying, “People should be allowed to campaign freely. We can’t afford to run a country where there is threat to lives and properties. I’m not desperate to be a Nigerian president or vice president, but people should be allowed to make their choices. Nigeria is a beautiful country; we must live in peace and unity.”

Speaking on the redesigning of the naira notes, he said, “It is worrisome, considering the time we are in now. Two weeks after the notice was announced, the dollar has risen from N700 to almost N900. You can’t make a policy that will affect the general public at the wrong time. This policy is supposed to have come earlier than now. It may be right, for example India did the same and recovered about $150billion, but for us now, the timing is wrong.”
