A public governance advocate, Prof. Amb. Princess Victoria Ayishetu Enape, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), as the new Minister of Defence following the resignation of Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Enape described the appointment as a strategic step that reflects the President’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and reinforcing confidence in the nation’s defence system.
She said President Tinubu has once again demonstrated “clarity of purpose and responsiveness” by selecting a tested military leader with extensive experience in counter-terrorism, inter-agency coordination, and human-rights–based security operations.
According to her, Gen. Musa’s leadership shaped by years on the frontlines and direct engagement with communities affected by insecurity positions him to provide the Ministry of Defence with the operational depth and policy foresight needed at a time of evolving national threats.
Enape also described the resignation of former Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar as an act of leadership maturity, noting that his exit creates room for renewed direction and fresh energy in tackling the country’s security challenges.
She expressed optimism that the transition will lead to enhanced defence reforms, improved military welfare, stronger international defence partnerships, and deeper collaboration among security agencies.
“The appointment of General Musa is more than an administrative change; it is a reaffirmation of the President’s resolve to secure every inch of this nation,” she said.
Enape added that with Musa’s assumption of office, Nigeria should expect a boost in military morale and a more intelligence-driven approach to addressing threats nationwide.
She urged Nigerians to view the appointment as a sign of renewed hope, saying the country is “on the threshold of a more resilient and secure future.”
