Africa Caribbean Conservative Association (ACCA), United Kingdom, has said the new minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, will make an impact in the fight against insurgency with the right support.
The group stated this while commending President Bola Tinubu for appointing Musa as Defence minister, describing the choice as timely and deserving.
In a statement issued in London and signed by its founder and chairman, Dixon Coker, the Association said General Musa’s nomination and confirmation reflect the President’s confidence in a seasoned military officer with extensive operational experience.
Founded in October 2009, ACCA represents people of African and Caribbean descent within the UK Conservative Party and advocates for their political, social, and developmental interests.
The group also engages in policy discussions on Africa and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on security and socio-economic stability.
According to the Association, years of insecurity in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, have heightened the need for a capable hand to steer the defence sector.
The body expressed optimism that Musa’s experience would contribute significantly to ongoing efforts to tackle terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other security threats across Nigeria and the Sahel region.
ACCA further noted that improved security outcomes would depend on strengthening internal structures within security agencies and ensuring adequate resources are made available for operations.
“The Association is convinced that, with the right support and the elimination of infiltrators within security institutions, General Musa’s leadership will positively impact the fight against criminality in Nigeria,” the statement added.
The group wished the new Defence minister a successful tenure as he assumes responsibility for one of the country’s most sensitive portfolios.
