In view of the prevailing security situation in the country, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has underscored the need for a holistic action to tackle cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery, oil theft, maritime and other violent crimes in the state.
The commissioner of police, Baba Azare, gave the charge at a security meeting with youth leaders from the 31 local government areas of the state at the state headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, the state capital.
He expressed the command’s commitment to strengthen community policing, promoting youth–police cooperation and sustaining peace and stability across the state.
Azare commended the youth leaders for their discipline, maturity and unwavering support throughout the year, noting that their responsible conduct, intelligence – sharing, and timely interventions prevented several potential crises and contributed significantly to the command’s operational successes in 2025.
He also appreciated the paramount rulers for their fatherly guidance and the state government for its continued support to the security architecture in the state and urged the youth leaders to continue to prioritise dialogue over confrontation, especially in engagements with investors, contractors, and development partners operating within their communities.
