The Sokoto State Government has dismissed media reports claiming that Governor Ahmed Aliyu accompanied Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to visit convicted IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.

In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesman, Abubakar Bawa, the State government described the reports as “misleading,” insisting that Governor Aliyu was not in Nigeria during Governor Otti’s visit to Sokoto.

According to the statement, “Governor Aliyu was in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj on 30 November 2025, the day Dr. Otti privately visited Sokoto.”

Government officials clarified that upon Dr. Otti’s arrival at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, he was received not by the Sokoto State governor but by “selected Commissioners and Special Advisers,” who then accompanied him to the Government House for the traditional courtesies extended to visiting governors.

Bawa emphasised the hospitality of the Sokoto people, noting, “We treat our visitors with utmost respect, irrespective of tribe or religion.”

The statement reaffirmed Governor Aliyu’s commitment to peace, respect for constituted authorities, and dedication to the unity of Nigeria.
