The executive director of Women in Mining Africa (WiM-Africa), Dr Comfort Asokoro-Ogaji, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Women in Mining Award at the Resourcing Tomorrow Outstanding Achievement Awards in London.

Dr Asokoro-Ogaji’s recognition marks a significant milestone for African leadership and a powerful testament to the growing impact of women in the global mining landscape.

According to a statement by Dr Antonia Nebo, director of Operations and Secretariat Services, Women in Mining Africa (WiM-Africa), Dr Asokoro-Ogaji was selected from a distinguished group of six finalists — Amanda Lacaze (Lynas Rare Earths), Laura Tyler (Adriatic Metals), Ingrid Hibbard (Pelangio Exploration), Michelle Keegan (Atrico/Robopalooza), and Ria Sanz (Marlow Global), adding that her victory underscores her continental influence and long-standing commitment to sustainable, inclusive mining.

In her remarks, Dr Ogaji dedicated the achievement to women and mining communities across Africa, emphasising the urgency of equitable development, beneficiation, and progressive policy advocacy.

“This win is for African women in mining, for host communities sustaining global industries, and for every woman whose work builds this sector even when unseen,” she said.

Dr Ogaji, it was learnt, is driving transformation efforts across more than 36 African countries.

Part of her work involves spearheading the establishment of the WiM-Africa Institute for Leadership & Sustainable Mining, as well as the development of beneficiation laboratories designed to enhance women-led value addition, research capacity, and innovation in critical minerals across the continent.
