First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has moved to downplay the controversy surrounding her exchange with Governor Ademola Adeleke during her installation as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua in Ile-Ife, on Sunday, an effort quietly echoed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The development might indicate that both parties saw the incident at non-issue and have decided to move on.

In a cryptic social media post on Tuesday, the First Lady Tinubu addressed the viral moment in which she interrupted Governor Adeleke while he was singing during his address at the event.

The post suggested that the public uproar over the incident had been exaggerated, noting that critics often amplify minor moments into needless controversies.

She wrote, “Those entrusted with leadership understand their duties and how to steer the affairs of society. More often, it is the followers and critics who scrutinize every step, amplify minor missteps, and turn them into needless controversy.”

The message was subsequently shared by Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, a move widely interpreted as an attempt to downplay the incident and signal that the governor’s camp did not view it as offensive.

Also, on Tuesday, First Lady Remi Tinubu issued a congratulatory message to the wife of Governor Adeleke on her 60th birthday, praising her role in Osun governance especially through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in the State.

Recall that LEADERSHIP reported that Governor Adeleke had been singing while addressing the audience during the ceremony. As he continued, Mrs Tinubu stepped toward the microphone and reportedly asked him to round off, saying, “Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone.”

The brief exchange, captured on video, quickly circulated on social media and triggered widespread debate among netizens.

Many Nigerians described the First Lady’s action as “rude,” particularly toward a sitting governor, while others argued she was merely attempting to maintain the flow of the event.

While some defended Senator Tinubu’s intervention as a measure to keep the programme on track, others insisted it came across as discourteous.
