In observance of the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day, members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Management and Staff organised an awareness walk around the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Tuesday.

The event featured the NFF Desk Officer from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mallam Abdulrahman Maigari, who joined NFF directors, including Dr Ademola Olajire (Director of Media & Communications), Ms Ruth David (Director of Competitions), Mr Barnabas Joro (Deputy Director, Protocol), Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman (Deputy Director, Competitions), Hajia Amina Daura (Head of Women’s Football), and other senior officials.

Barrister Queen Otarakpo, Head of NFF’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), highlighted the significance of the day, stating that International Anti-Corruption Day “serves as a reminder that corruption is not merely a legal violation; it is a barrier to development, a threat to institutional integrity, and an enemy of public trust.”

She added, “Our organisation is at the forefront of this battle. As the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, we are dedicated to fostering a culture where integrity is non-negotiable, transparency is the norm, and accountability is a shared responsibility.

“Corruption thrives in silence. Today, we choose to raise our voices. We choose honesty over shortcuts, service over self-interest, and responsibility over negligence. By upholding ethical standards in our daily duties, we strengthen our institution and contribute to a nation where fairness and justice can flourish.”

Maigari reiterated the ICPC’s three mandates—enlightenment, prevention, and prosecution—emphasising that enlightenment and prevention are paramount. He commended the NFF for its active role in the anti-corruption effort.

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi (MON), praised the NFF ACTU for organising the awareness walk and for consistently involving the ICPC Desk Officer in their initiatives.

“There are small actions we may not realise could be deemed corrupt, but through awareness and campaigns like this, individuals and institutions become better informed. The NFF ACTU executive team is exceptionally dedicated, and we are proud of their proactivity, focus, diligence, and sense of duty.”
