A woman lost her life while two other men were injured in a fire incident ignited by an unattended charcoal cooking pot at Agbaakin Street, behind Testing Ground, Iwo Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday.
The incident was disclosed on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, through a statement in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
According to Akinwande, the inferno began after “a lighted charcoal cooking pot left unattended” ignited nearby combustible materials, leading to the late-night blaze.
Akinwande said the fire emergency was received at exactly 8:18 pm on Monday, December 8, 2025. “On getting there, it was two rooms on the upper floor of a private residential building of 12 rooms engulfed by fire,” he said.
Akinwande confirmed that the remains of one woman were recovered, while two persons (males) were rescued alive.
The chairman added that although the fire consumed two rooms, firefighters were able to save the rest of the building and property valued at millions of naira.
He noted that the operation was jointly handled with officers of the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.
