The Institute of Leadership Assessment and Development of Nigeria (ILAD) has concluded its Summit Series in Lagos and Abuja with a call for the institutionalisation of leadership development in the country.

The summits held in Lagos on November 27 and Abuja on December 11 brought together government officials, security agencies, academia, the private sector, civil society organisations, traditional institutions, as well as women’s and youth groups.

They provided a strategic platform for robust dialogue, sharing of experiences, and policy-focused discussions on leadership, governance, institutional development, and national transformation.

The institute’s director-general, Dr Baba Ransome Adamu, said the participants unanimously identified leadership as a critical determinant of Nigeria’s political stability, economic growth, national security and social cohesion.

The summits also observed that weak institutional capacity and leadership gaps continue to undermine effective governance and service delivery across the country.

The participants emphasised that ethical leadership, accountability and transparency are essential to restoring public trust in institutions, while highlighting the persistent underrepresentation of youth and women in leadership and decision-making structures.

At the end of deliberations, the summit resolved that leadership development must be institutionalised in both the public and private sectors, with continuous capacity building prioritised for leaders at all levels.
