A psychiatrist, Dr Nonyenim Enyinda, has called on specialised medical schools in the country to incorporate new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotic applications, virtual reality and simulation-based learning into existing curricula.

Enyinda made the call yesterday in Port Harcourt, when he delivered the 2025 convocation lecture of the Pamo University of Medical Sciences (PUMS), titled: “Resilience In Medical Innovation.”

He is also involved in medical institutions, ensuring that those new technologies lead to measurable improvement in learning and clinical outcomes, pointing out that such curricula will integrate interdisciplinary programmes, such as combining medicine with technology, data science, and practical integrated training across all the allied professions.

The psychiatrist said: “There is a need to effectively incorporate the new technologies such as artificial intelligence, Robotic applications, virtual reality and simulation-based learning into existing curricula and ensure that they lead to measurable improvement in education and clinical outcomes.

“Such curricula will integrate interdisciplinary programs such as combining medicine with technology, data- science, and practical integrated training across all the allied professions.

Enyinda, the medical director of Psychiatric Hospital, Port Harcourt, stated that innovative technology has become the key to unlocking all the opportunities that connect the distant corners of the world.

“Innovative technology has become the key to unlock all the opportunities connecting the distant corners of the world. It is the tool in modern education, revolutionising the way we teach and learn.

“It personalizes learning by tailoring education to meet each student’s needs. It creates a platform by which students can assess progress, understand concepts, and address their diverse learning styles,” he said.
