Suspected Cattle Rustlers Steal 50 Cows In Kogi Community

Some suspected cattle rustlers have stolen 50 cows in Gbugbu, a rural community in the Lafiagi area of Kogi State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 4 pm on Thursday when two young Fulani herders, Hassan and Husseini, both aged 25, were grazing their cattle on the outskirts of the village.

According to a counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the herders were ambushed by the armed men who suddenly emerged from nearby bushes and forcefully drove away the animals, subsequently fleeing the scene before help could arrive.

“The attackers struck suddenly and escaped with about 50 cows,” a police source disclosed.

The incident was formally reported to security agencies by Alhaji Abubakar Muhammadu and Malam Tijani Ahmed who serves as the secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Lafiagi.

Following the report, security agencies have launched an immediate response.

A joint task force comprising personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, members of the Village Guard Network (VGN), and local hunters has been deployed to the affected area to track down the perpetrators.

A security official involved in the operation said the team has commenced a coordinated search of nearby forests, bush paths, and known cattle routes commonly used by rustlers.

“Our men are combing the surrounding areas to track the rustlers and recover the stolen cows,” the official stated.
