Church activities across Kabba/Bunu local government area of Kogi State have been suspended indefinitely following security threats in the area.

The decision was jointly announced by the Obaro of Kabba and chairman of Kabba/Bunu Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kabba/Bunu LGA chapter, after a stakeholders’ meeting held at the monarch’s palace.

The move came amid growing insecurity in parts of Kogi State, including attacks on churches and recent discoveries of arms and ammunition by security operatives, developments that have heightened fears of possible bandit attacks on worship centres.

According to a statement issued by the Coordinator of CAN in Kabba/Bunu LGA, Rev. Kayode Osatuyi, the decision to halt all church services was based on credible intelligence and was taken “in the interest of public safety.”

“The Obaro of Kabba, acting on credible security intelligence, directed the immediate suspension of all church services across Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area until further notice,” Rev. Osatuyi said.

“This decision followed consultations with the state leadership of CAN and was unanimously agreed upon by stakeholders at the meeting.”

He stressed that all churches under the CAN umbrella in the local government were expected to fully comply with the suspension order.

Rev. Osatuyi urged Christians and residents in the area to remain calm, vigilant, and prayerful, assuring that worship services would resume once the security situation improves.

“Churches will be officially informed when it becomes safe to reopen for worship,” he added.
